Urban Fashion I

6 comentarios

Sorry for not writing more often, I am quite busy with a final paper that is killing meee arghghhg

Anyways. A couple weeks ago I discovered the most fabulous flickr groups evah! It's called wardrobe_remix and it's about people's outfits =) People just take a photo of themselves wearing whatever they chose that day and post it there. It's so much fun to go through it to get new fashion ideas!!! I wish I'd be more fashionable, then I'd post my photos there. But I don't think tshirt and jeans falls into any fashion category.

So, I asked there if anybody would like to work with me, letting me post one of her/his pictures and I would try to find similar items in Etsy :) A couple of them answered me, and here it goes, Urban Fashion take 1!

Caroline was so kind to participate in this series, and let me chose one of her outfits:

purple headband - goody
orange top - target
belt - thrifted
skirt - nike golf, thrifted
shoes - bandolino

As you can see above, did a little research in Etsy to find some clothes to achieve a similar style.

Sellers, left to right, top to bottom, are (link to the item): flutter, artifactory, snoozerloser, beasBargains, raretreasure, ShannahMMignini, ModishVintage, laddsleather, WillowsWorld, DewberryVintage, gemdropsjewelry, jacquiem76

I don't know why, but a pleated white skirt was almost impossible to find!!

I hope you liked today's post =)
If you have a look or style you would like to submit, please post a comment!

Caroline has a vintage shop in etsy full of awesome stuff!! Please check it out:

Next blog post will be: Get Penelope Cruz's look!

P.S. Thanks a lot Caroline!! =) Love your outfits and your shop.

Get Dita von Teese's look!

3 comentarios

I got very nice comments on my last post on how to get the look of Gwen Stefani, so I decided to give it a try again, and a lot of people wanted to see Dita von Teese on one of these.

So this post is for your inner pinup star! =) I'll keep this short because I found so many cool things to show you!

Dita always wears this super classy outfits, hair and makeup, and basically it's a 40s - 50s look.

How to get her overall look in 3 steps:
1. vintage or vintage looking clothes (40s and 50s): pencil skirt, peep toe shoes, ...
2. red lipstick + black eyeliner.
3. 40s hairdo: get some soft curls.

And now, to the handmade twist. I found an incredible amount of items that would fit in Dita's style, and I'm sure she would be thrilled to wear any of these:

Get Gwen Stefani's look!

6 comentarios

At some point in this blog story I run out of fashion ideas to write about. So I went to the Etsy forums and asked people what would they like to see in a fashion blog. I got a couple interesting answers, and decided to go for the "Get the look for less" in this case "Get the handmade look". And most people said they wanted to see this for Gwen Stefani's look, so here it goes!!! =)

First of all let's say that Gwen has a very unique style that has changed a lot over the years. But one thing has always been there and defines her: RED LIPSTICK!

How to get the look in 4 steps:

  1. Get red lipstick. To make her mouth pop even more, she uses a lipliner and then tops the lip color with a sheer gloss.
  2. Smoky eyes. Copy her look, by applying a warm colored eye shadow, like taupe, to your eyes. Then use black eyeliner pencil to line the eyes. Finish the look by curling your eyelashes and applying at least two coats of very black mascara.
  3. She always wears clothes from her own label's clothing: L.A.M.B. If you really want to look like her, buy some of her clothes (easy, ah?).
  4. Experiment with your hair!
So, pretty easy. However, I didn't like the idea of buying her clothes to get this look because I think that even if you want to look like her, surely you want to add a bit of your own style, right?

I picked a photo of Gwen (thank you Google!) and went through the whole outfit finding similar items in Etsy. There are items in different price ranges, so, enjoy!

gwenstefani

Sellers, from left to right, top to bottom, are (link to the item): iloveparrotkisses, RedMush, LuxEmbellishments, gilbea, FablesbyBarrie, setene, atouchofvintage, rookierags, MetroVintage, secretaryslounge, JacobsEye, wearnoevil, depalma, aosLeather, lipglossandblack, CNYResinCo

Well, if you look twice at Gwen's picture, you'll see that the items I picked aren't exactly like hers. It was super hard to find a plain white shirt! Can you believe that? Probably the best option is to get one a thrift store =) Also the belt was difficult to find. And I added one of my own items... sorry, couldn't help it! But I think the overall result follows her style.

And now, if you want to experiment a bit with your hair and get a Gwen's look, I found this video on Youtube, I thought it was fabulous! Only one thing: how do you do this on your own?? o_O

I think now you have everything you need to achieve Gwen's look =) and handmade!

Did you like this post? Would you like to see more of this style? Any other people you would like to see the "Get the look of" of?

On a side note, I found a great flickr group: wardrobe mix where people post their pictures with their own awesome outfits. So I will start a series on "urban" fashion thanks to them, yay! =)

Thanks a lot for reading!

Summer Trend: Maxi Dresses!

4 comentarios

First of all, I hope you like the new blog design =)

New blog, new name, new everything!

But I still keep working on fashion trends applied to the handmade world... so today I'm writing about Maxi Dresses.

Ok, I have never dared buy a maxi dress. First of all because being a tall and not very thin girl, well, I thought it made me look even bigger if you know what I mean.

But I have to say it looks really cute. Really really cute for summer evenings =) So I might try this year get one, and I'll tell you how it went hehe

What to wear with a maxi dress? Well, you wanna go the boho/hippy/beach style with these, so try to grab a pair of flat sandals in whatever color you like. If the dress is a bit more formal then get some heels, you know ;)

So, wanna look like a hollywood star in a maxi dress but cheaper and handmade? Here are my Etsy picks for this trend:

maxidress

Sellers, from left to right, top to bottom, are (link to the item): ujufashions, DewberryVintage, ancestorvintage, lilybrush, NikitaJade, BlackRavenVintage, figsntwigs, Madrone, DewberryVintage, beigebeigebeige, naKiMuli, vintageitville

These are some of the dresses I found in Etsy, but believe me, there are many many more.. so if you like this style, you know where to look now ;)

Did you like this trend? Will you be wearing it this summer? Or creating some maxi dresses to sell? If so please let me know! ;)

Also please post any comments you might have about the new design of the blog. Do you like it better? Hate it? Something you would change / improve? Please let me know :)

Soon will be placing some ads on the sides, what do you think about this? You think it should remain an ad free blog? Or you don't mind? Help me decide =)

The Fragrances for this season

3 comentarios

Yesterday I realized I have covered almost all approaches to fashion for this summer season: clothing, accessories, makeup, shoes, ....
But, oh no! I forgot perfumes!

Let's be serious here, I may leave the house with crappy clothes and snickers, with no make up on, with horrible hair, no jewelry,... but neva EVA without perfume on. Serious!

My favourite perfumes are Pink Sugar by Aquolina and Kenzo Amour. =) I'm a sweet girl hehe

I used Pink Sugar for a long time, I discovered it when I was living in the US. When I came back to Spain nobody could resist to its fragrance! hehe Everybody loved it :)

Then I fell in love with Kenzo Amour when it came out and haven't stopped using it! I'm not one of those girls that has tons of different perfumes. I stick to one, and hate those that are too heavy or floral. I love the Green / Red apple by DKNY. So you get what I like.

So I thought I could as well find out what are the trends in fragrances for summer. And here they are:
  1. Citrus combined with floral notes.
  2. Sweet and edible. Fragrances are starting to incorporate creamy vanilla notes and chocolate-like scents into floral fragrances.
  3. Less fresh, ozone scents, more sweet, subtle florals.

This ideas are directly taken from the website Bottled Up Emotions - check the article to read the full review.

And of course, I went to Etsy to hunt for summer perfumes! Here are my picks:

perfume

Sellers from left to right, top to bottom, are (link to the item): artedelporfumo, Loreto, BerrysweetStuff, LemonLollipop, BerrysweetStuff, LemonLollipop, themefragance, LuxuriesForTheBody, Loreto, magickalrealism, YouStinkSoap, BerrysweetStuff, themefragance, BerrysweetStuff, Loreto, Byzan

Please note that I only looked for perfumes, not soap, bath foam, gel, shampoo or anything like that. I am an addict to anything bath/shower related, and if I had gone looking for those products I would have emptied my credit card! So I stopped myself from doing that and focused on perfumes.

I know that buying a perfume without having smelled it is very hard. However, seems this shops are doing pretty well and their customers are very happy! =)

There is a bit of everything: vanilla with floral, citrus of all kinds, sweet: chocolate, cookies, pink sugar,.. I am very tempted to buy some of these...!

Enjoy!

Did you like this post? Do you like any of these scents? Would you ever buy a perfume online? What is your favourite scent? What is your favourite commercial perfume?

Next time: ahh who knows! Anything you would like to see in this blog?

Another summer trend: Ombre

6 comentarios

Hi people!
Sorry for taking so long to post again. But here I am back again with one more summer trend for you: Ombre items :)

I've seen some clothes like these in the shops in the mall, and some of them are quite nice. So I tried to look for something similar in Etsy. First of all I discovered the search had changed a little, but after a couple seconds realized I can still search in all the types of items. And here they are!

ombre

Sellers, from left to right, top to bottom, are (link to the item): akaisilks, salvagelife, rocketmansion, karenw45002, ThreeFiveEightyFive, hodgepodgefarm, modestambition, samhoh, inspiringcolor

As you can see there were not that many of them. Seems this trend didn't really make it to Etsy.

Anyways, I hope you liked the items I pickes. Do you like this trend? Is it something you will be wearing or adding to your etsy shop?

For now I think I totally run out of trends to talk about, so if you have any new ideas, something you would like to know about, please let me know ;) Or if you have any clothes/accessories you don't know what to wear with, let me know and I will try to find something that suits you in Etsy. Thanks!

On a total self promotion point, wanted to announce some new silk handfans being added to my shop:

Thanks a lot for reading!

New Shoes!

8 comentarios

I couldn't help it.... I bought a pair of shoes! I'm the kind of girl that always wears trainers/snickers :) But I have a couple nice sandals for summer and boots for winter. However, this is my first pair of nice SHOES.

I got them at Zara. Yeah, cheap shoes. And also, not the most comfortable ones evah (compared to trainers! haha) But I swear I will learn to walk on them and not die! :D After all, I'm not going to walk a lot on them. I suppose I'm just one more female victim of the addiction to shoes... argghh

Definitely I bought them just because I love them, not for any outfit or occasion. So now comes the very famous female say: "What do I wear this with?" And I have a very cute denim skirt that will go great with them, but decided I also wanted to know what could the handmade world offer me to wear with this awesome shoes, from clothes to accessories and jewelry.

So here are my Etsy picks for my new shoes, I hope you like them as much as I do!

shoes

Sellers, from left to right, top to bottom, are (link to the item): hollystalder, larimeloom, megamimoon, eninaj, VC2o, daniellejewelry, roselabiche, cocoirene, vaivanat, isadoraclothing, nervoussystem, thefaintinggoat, missbrache, laurenkroberts, flutter, ninu

From all these artists, I really love all the work of daniellejewelry, eninaj and nervoussystem! :)
(And my birthday is coming soooon)

Please let me know if you liked this post, and of course, if you have an item you don't know what to wear it with, I'd be more than happy to search Etsy for you! :) Just post a comment about it!
This was a lot of fun hehe

On another note, I finally decided on who would do my alchemy dress... so yeah, can't wait to get it! :) I will post pictures of the final product heh

I also got new silk handfans I will be adding to the etsy store soon...

Next post: Really no idea! Help!

And If I can ask you one favour... If you like the blog, please rate it :) It's here on the right column ------>
